BROWN IS BACK.

A couple of months ago, I noticed a trend in the resurgence of rich chocolate browns across runways and even in the pages of a few magazines. When I finally made the declaration that chocolate brown was back, however, a few of you cringed at the thought of this color (who wore out its welcome nearly five years ago) making its return. But, haven't we learned that when a color makes its comeback, it usually does so in a better, more fabulous version of itself?

Or delicious velvety walls? In fact, paired with sophisticated metallics and fellow neutrals, the brown isn't so bad after all. As long as we refrain from baby blue anywhere near this color, I have a feeling  chocolate is about reinvent itself.

I'm especially loving it in accessories that include a dose of gold. What do you think, dear readers, are we ready to let this color back into our homes? Our wardrobes?

A BOLD (NEW) BOURDEAUX

Tonight at Neiman Marcus I'll be helping to present some of the fall's biggest trends with a mini fashion show featuring some of my favorite picks from the store. I'm so excited to be doing some fun things in the fashion arena, as you all know my work usually leans towards interiors. But I'm even more excited that one of their top trend picks also happens to be one of my current favorites: bordeaux!

    burgundy2
Paired with a refreshing mint, tangerine or bold blue, this rich wine hue is taking on a whole new life far from the heavy, formal style it used to live in. I can't wait to share some of the bordeaux looks we came up with for the show!

PASTELS + BLACK

When decorating (or dressing) with certain colors I think there are little rules that we somehow place on ourselves - one of them being the use of black with softer palettes. Most people tend to shy away from the dramatic neutral when using such quiet hues of lilac, pistachio, blushing pinks or buttery yellow. When, in fact, it's exactly what they need...

Wouldn't you agree? To me having a little black accent in a room is just as necessary as having that little black dress hanging in your closet.

RED, WHITE + GREEN?

While I work on putting together a few more posts from my travels in Italy, this color combination seems quite appropriate to share with you this morning...
    red green white
A preppy twist to red, white and blue, the switch to green is unexpected for summer, don't you think? I love the little addition of pale blue or aqua to keep it feeling fresh, too.

As a side note, Nick Olsen really hit this little studio apartment out of the park with his fun design - I immediately tore out the white sofa with green piping for my inspiration board. If you haven't seen it (all over blogland), check out the whole thing on House Beautiful's site.

GINGHAM + MILITARY + PILES OF JEWELS

It's official. Two of my favorites are doing it, so you know it's good...
    sterling style
    atlantic-pacific
I love the way these fabulous ladies (Sterling Style and Atlantic-Pacific) layered up their preppy gingham with chunky jewels and masculine army jackets to toughen things up. Add in touch of this spring's hottest trends (open weave knits and florals) and you've got two seriously winning combinations. Do it up, girls!

FASHION WEEK: COLOR LOVE

Hi lovelies, Crissie from bug&Bear here to share with you one of my favorite parts of fashion week- color trends. I could (and do...) spend hours browsing the latest collections, looking for fabulous color combinations. Here are a few of my favorites so far for fall...
An almost calming mix of dusty rose and deep azure at Rebecca Taylor (top row), and rich grays and greens (with pops of red) at Steven Alan (bottom row). Plus- leopard print gloves? Fierce.
And, oh my, I can't get enough of orange and blue, it has such a fresh feel, and mixed with metallic pants? Perfection by Peter Som (top row). Jenni Kayne's collection (bottom row) delivers a stunning mix of mustard and turquoise that feels casual but still chic. Fall is shaping up to be a very colorful season!
