KNACKERED

I'm positively spent after this week, but I've got to push on through because this weekend is the weekend we wrap the Anniversary Issue of Rue!

Heading to LA tomorrow to put this puppy to bed so that I can finally put myself to bed too. Very excited to see it all come together, and share the fabulousness with you all! Until then... I'm taking the day off to pack and cross some things off the to-do list before I hop another flight!

ROOM OF THE WEEK: CHANGING SEASONS

Now that autumn has officially arrived, there will be no more outdoor dining in these parts. Already, our mornings are taking forever to warm up from the chilly nights! So, I thought this week's Room of the Week was especially appropriate... and interesting to say the least!
    Picture 6
At first glance, it may not look like much, design wise. Sure, the flowing curtains give off an amazing warm glow, and the layers are lovely, but woven chairs and a slightly undersized rug? Not so sure.

But then, you take a deeper look and realize... the walls. They look textured right? Well, that's because they are. Extremely textured. This is the home of Alina Apteker, and her vision was to create a space that felt like dining in a Parisian garden or courtyard. And those walls? They're faux boxwood. Add an antique chandelier and mismatched Versace china, and yes, you've definitely got yourself a little piece of Paris.

While most of us don't have the type of room (or the guts) to do something so extreme, it certainly has me thinking of ways to stage the home for for a dinner party or two during the chilly months ahead! I also love the idea of swapping out my white curtains for something that will add a little warmth to the tone of the room - a filter that recreates that infamous Parisian lighting... or as close as one can get.

FROM FANTASY TO FÊTE: INDIAN FEAST

Happy fall, c+k readers! Camille Styles here, excited to be back after a little hiatus from our Fantasy to Fête series...

I just got home from a whirlwind trip to Buenos Aires, and I must say: all this travel has left me a bit obsessed with inspiration gathered from exotic locales. For today's fantasy, we're crossing the Pacific for an Indian-inspired feast, perfect for an outdoor get-together embracing the turning of the seasons. It's the perfect party to incorporate my current favorite orange-and-pink color palette, adding exotic details and Bangladeshi-inspired fabrics to the mix. So how to turn this taste of India into a chic celebration?

There's nothing like swaths of exotic fabric to transport guests to distant lands. For a big group, pop up a bright tent that transforms the backyard into an outdoor dining room. If you're hosting a more intimate gathering, try hanging yards of sheer fabric as curtains or room dividers...add pillows and poufs on the floor for the coziest souk-inspired setup.

Hot pink trays bearing coconut shrimp with mango chutney are a delicious accompaniment to Indian beer and fizzy punch. For a casual approach to the menu, you've got to try these curried chicken sandwiches that I blogged about last year. The addictive flavors put them on constant rotation at our house.

Mounds of oranges in metallic bowls are a chic (and cost effective) way to incorporate our citrus-y color palette into the table design. Add vibrant napkins, handwritten place cards, a sari-inspired runner and gold votives to warm up the entire table.

For a final touch, adorn the living room with a couple of earthen bowls filled with water and floating gardenias & orchids. It creates a truly transporting focal point and fills the room with a heavenly perfume. Oh, and a couple of Bollywood films playing on silent can't hurt either!

GET THE LOOK:: WRAP IT UP

What to wear when the weather hasn't quite caught up with our desire to bundle up and layer? When unpredictable temps have us peeling off our beloved layers only to put them on again. Some call this lovely season transitional but I call it tricky! Cristina from Fuji Files here with a transitional tip to get you through the season.
get the look scarf wrap street style
Wraps are an excellent fix for fall because they're as easy to throw on as they are to take off, and they add an effortless air to any outfit. I love the laid back boho feel of an oversized scarf, but I like to keep the rest of the look polished when sporting this trend (so as not to look like I walked out of the house in a blanket!). We're only a few days into fall so I kept this look bright with a light tee and fun salmon colored trousers.
get the look stree style blanket wrap scarf
This is an easy way to add pattern to an otherwise neutral outfit, and there are lots of great patterns to choose from right now like Aztec and Southwestern inspired prints! I chose a pretty paisley and paired it with metallic heels for that extra glam factor. If you're up for adding one more fall accessory to the mix, top it all off with a felt fedora!

FLASH + TRIM

Metallic detailing is nothing new when it comes to most accessories, so why not put some hardware on your dining table or patches on your favorite cashmere?
    metallic trim
I love the hit of detail and flash these gold and silver trims bring to unexpected pieces. Can you tell I'm in the mood for metallic accents this week? (Well, really, when am I not?)

KICK PUSH (IN CELINE)

Growing up in LA I had a friend who was an awesome skater. I thought it would be so cool to be a little skater girl, but I just didn't have the skills (or patience) to pick it up. I tried again in Jr. High... a little more successfully, but it was a phase and I dropped it because I didn't really want to invest in my own board. But now, I've run across a reason to fall in love with it again...
    0924111
Check out the pattern on these amazing decks. Do they look familiar? Just a little bit? They're one of my most favorite prints from Celine that I posted on earlier this year.
    092411 2a
And I'm kinda over the moon for the way the print looks on the boards. Not to mention a perfect marriage of fashion and sport. So if you're into it, better get over to STOP IT RIGHT NOW to get your own. I'm pretty sure these are gonna fly.

PS - if you actually get the title for the post, we're now besties on a whole other level.

GEOMETRIC GLAMOUR

There's something about geometric patterns that set my heart a-racing. Maybe it's my type A hyper organized brain but when I see patterns like Kubus from Pierre Frey (used below in the curtains) I simply swoon...
    LI-MA3
It may have something to do with the use of linen and gold too. Unfortunately, there's nothing about Pierre that's very affordable (although as a designer, I still get a pretty wonderful discount!). And when considering yards and yards of it for curtains in my bedroom, I just can't seem to commit. So when I stumbled upon this image by Gilles Trillard, I had a moment of brilliance...
    gilles trillard
Calm down... I'm not going to go painting walls or anything crazy. But I did think... what if I could find a black and white geometric fabric that I could simply paint the gold onto? Because how stunning would these walls be if they just had a little metallic in them here and there? I think even keeping the placement of the gold slightly random would be beautiful.

Also, let's back up a sec - those walls? Amazing. They remind me of a project I did in art class my junior year of college. I hated that assignment, but now I'm starting to appreciate my teacher for making me do it. Because this? This kind of art my organized brain could definitely handle. I got an A in that class. Geometry? Not so much.

We woke up to a hazy morning in Seattle, but chilly fall air? Not quite! I'm happy to be enjoying the warm days while they last, but I am looking forward to bundling up just a little bit...

This weekend I head to San Francisco to visit good friends and celebrate the one year anniversary of Rue (have you seen our sneek peek at the anniversary issue?). I can't wait to be back in one of my favorite cities and I'm sure I'll have some fun moments to share with you when I return!

Hoping your first weekend of fall is fabulous!
