WOULD YOU, COULD YOU :: COLORED FUR

I have to admit - I haven't been the biggest fan of this technicolor fur trend. The fur explosion in itself is getting a teeeeensy bit old (although I do adore a good fur throw in my home), and colored fur? Hm. Not so sure. But then I saw this gorgeous editorial...
    natasha-poly-mariano-vivanco-vog-par-10-21-11-02
    natasha-poly-mariano-vivanco-vog-par-10-21-11-04
And suddenly it came together for me. Paired in a monochromatic palette, these colorful furs actually layer quite nicely. Instead of standing out too much they simply add texture to an already colorful ensemble. And if you do want to do something a little more 'high contrast'?
    natasha-poly-mariano-vivanco-vog-par-10-21-11-08
    natasha-poly-mariano-vivanco-vog-par-10-21-11-06
Pair it with neutrals to keep it classy, and match your hat to your stole so you don't look like a furry rainbow. What do you think? Could you brave it? I might be able to talk myself into something along the lines of that rusty red color...

*editorial: natasha poly by mariano vivanco for vogue spain

*ps - before someone leaves a nasty comment, yes i like to err on the side of faux fur, unless it's vintage!

ROOM OF THE WEEK: 11.29

I've been neglecting my Room of the Week duties lately with holiday on the brain, but when I spotted this stunning stunning bathroom, I knew I had to share...
    glamorous bathroom lighting
The lighting really takes the cake for me, but the intricate door is a close second. Mirror third. I'd almost prefer a vanity that was a bit more delicate, but it certainly helps anchor the room, and makes the marble seem to go on for days. I spy a bath I'd like to soak in for the rest of the day please...

LET'S GET DRAMATIC

We can't really talk about holiday decor without discussing a little styling in the dining room too...
    drama in dining
Along with my dramatic black Christmas tree, I'm going to have to create a table setting that can compete for attention! Perhaps some classic sophistication in black and warm neutrals (and a hit of red?)
    drama in dining3
Or a super vintage inspired mint and pale pink (with doses of black to tie in with the tree of course). I could see this going very retro meets deco.
    drama in dining2
Or, what my be my favorite (no surprise) a rich shade of green with tons of shimmering gold. Care to place your vote?

THE GOODY BAG: MAISON MAGNIFIQUE

As I always say, anytime a party has great music, sweet treats and fun people, it's definitely a success. It's Alissa from The Goods Design here with The Goody Bag - an insider's view of LA's interior design soirees.

Last week I hit up the Erinn V Maison grand opening fete (that's me on the left with the fabulous ladies from Decorative Carpets.)

It's a furniture wonderland. In Los Angeles space is often at a premium - it's fantastic that the showroom for her furniture collection is so spacious you can see everything beautifully laid out.
    EVstore1
See that mirror with the bird feet? That's my favorite little goody from the showroom (in case anyone is wondering what to get me for the holidays!). And that large starburst mirror and fabulous sectional sofa are definitely on my lust-list as well.

Owner Erinn Valencich also heads up an incredible interior design firm (Erinn V Design Group) - so if you don't live in LA and can't pop into her showroom, I definitely suggest heading over to her website for some great inspiration. Here's a little preview of what you'll see...

Erinn V Maison is located at 319 S. Robertson Blvd. between 3rd and Burton. If you don't see my favorite mirror, it's probably because I've snatched it up for myself!

AN UNCOMMON CHRISTMAS

Sooo.... I ordered a black Christmas tree on Friday. I'm not sure what inspired me to go in this total opposite direction (I've always had metallic or white!) other than I thought it was time for something with a little more drama...

I'm a traditionalist at heart, but you know that I like to shake things up with my holidays and do something a little unexpected. Christmas has never been red, white and green for me, so I'm starting to collect some ideas for where I'll be taking this black tree. I spy stripes, lace, birds and feathers, mirrors, snow capped branches, and plenty of lanterns - all with a very Indochine inspired vibe. What do you think? Extreme? Or exciting?

SHOP 'TIL YOU DROP?

Traditionally, it's the busiest shopping day of the year here in the states. Black Friday. For those of you brave (or crazy?) enough to fight the crowds, I admire your ambition. For me? I'd rather stay at home and shop...

And if you happen to be on the same page as me, then I'd love to encourage you to click over to a few of our sponsors here on coco+kelley! I love to give back to those who support this little blog of mine! Like our Premiere Sponsors Society Social (for glamorous bar carts and other fun accent pieces!) Jules Reid (because everyone could use a new holiday frock!), Tea Collection (I'm dying over that little girl's party dress), and Serena & Lily (beautiful tabletop selections on top of all their gorgeous furniture!)

Don't forget our other sponsors too. I adore browsing Gemvara's site for super customizable rings (and other pretties), the beautiful textile options at Camilla David, and personalized cards for every occasion at Magnet Street and Storkie!

And, of course, we love supporting small local businesses. So, if you are heading out today, be sure to pop into your favorite boutiques too! Have a fun weekend as we officially head into the holiday season!!

AND A VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU...

One of the things I was most thankful for today? Better lighting in my apartment! I spent the morning re-shooting the whole tabletop and it was absolutely worth it. I hope you enjoy...!
    happy thanksgiving
The inspiration for this setting came solely from this vintage fabric that I've been dying to use in a table design for quite some time now. I wanted the feeling to be woodsy, soft and romantic, but not fussy. The florals in the linen are so strong that I didn't need anything else overwhelming it, and the only other pattern I knew I wanted in there was the beautiful herringbone napkins from Sferra (especially after polling you all on your favorite elements from my initial inspiration boards!)
    thanksgiving fall tabletop coco+kelley1
    thanksgiving fall tabletop coco+kelley2
    thanksgiving fall tabletop coco+kelley3
While the majority of the colors in the tablecloth are soft greys and greens, there's also a bronze element and that's where I got the idea to do warmer toned stemware (from West Elm) combined with cool tones in the florals to mimic the linen.
    thanksgiving fall tabletop coco+kelley4
    thanksgiving fall tabletop coco+kelley5
The same theory applied to the dishware - a combination of warm gold chargers (from Pier1) and cool grey dishes (purchased at velocity) lent itself well to the table linen, and the gold flatware (by canvas) absolutely popped! If you were to want a more rustic look, I would swap out the gold chargers for wood and tie some burlap around the floral arrangement.

And now... there's only one thing left to say...

Thank you. My dear readers, friends, contributors fellow bloggers, design lovers, pinterest addicts, tweet chatters, facebook followers, and especially commenters. Thank you for building this amazing community. Not just here at coco+kelley, but in this whole other world that we have created where we all get to inspire and encourage and share with each other every day. I love you all (for reals). Happy Happy Thanksgiving! (Now, where's my pie...)
    xo cassandra
*ps - i'm quite aware that in my haste to set the table i set the flatware in the wrong place, swapping the forks and spoons. my apologies for offending anyone's traditional sensibilities. martha would be so disappointed! on the other hand... for us italians, it makes sense for the fork to be on the right and spoon on the left - pasta twirlers that we are. i think nono would approve.

WHAT TO WEAR :: BLACK FRIDAY

It's coming ladies, the biggest day of the shopping year! Whether you love it or hate it, Black Friday is an event that requires planning, patience and determination (even just to get into the parking lot). The last thing we want to worry about is what to wear amidst the chaos, so here's a fail proof outfit to weather the shopping storm.
Get the Look street style New Balance sneakers
Stilettos are of course a beautiful addition to any street style photo, but how many of us will be rocking a 5-inch heel when negotiating the Target throngs this Friday? Probably 0%. Of course, if you have the guts to brave Black Friday in heels, power to you! But a sensible pair of sneakers is much more practical, and luckily for us right on-trend too.
    20111116_8
Apparently the fashionistas' sneaker of choice is New Balance, a shoe I typically associate with my dad and P.E. teacher; however the classic sensibility of this sneaker is the perfect addition to a casual shopping suit. I'm constantly fighting the fashion battle between comfort and style, but I always prefer to do my shopping in an ensemble that will inspire me to make smart purchases. This suit and sneakers combo ticks all the boxes!
get the look new balance street style
For this look I paired a simple black blazer with easy fit drawstring pants (which we'll be thankful for post-Thanksgiving). Add a watch to keep the trip on track, an ipad case for quick price comparisons and digital shopping lists, a carryall tote, and of course some stylish kicks. What's your Black Friday uniform?

*resources: blazer, shirt, & purse Zara, ipad case Tory Burch, glasses & pants Elizabeth and James, bracelet House of Harlow 1960, watch Marc Jacobs, shoes New Balance

THANKSGIVING SNEAK PEEK...

I spent the afternoon styling up my dining table for Thanksgiving... photo
Even in my light-filled apartment, the gloomy weather caused some lighting issues, so it's going to take a little more editing than I thought, but I'll have the whole shoot ready for you tomorrow! Until then... xo

ANATOMY OF AN ANTHRO TABLETOP

If there's one thing I love more than designing interiors, it's putting together a fabulous tabletop. Needless to say this time of year is heaven for me. And, a few weeks ago I got to indulge in some serious tabletop designing with a little event I did at Anthropologie here in Seattle...
    anthropologie_cocokelley_fall_tabletop6
When I was a merchandiser, I remember how many shoppers would get overwhelmed by the variety of dishware offered at the store and ask for help on how to mix them with their current patterns. So, when I started talking with Anthropologie about doing an event I immediately knew what I wanted to do...
    anthropologie_cocokelley_fall_tabletop11
    anthropologie_cocokelley_fall_tabletop1
I set up a little table where one side was a bit more colorful and whimsical and the other more monochromatic and classic - both of which took the best of current Anthropologie dishes, stemware and other tabletop accessories - and layered them on up!
    anthropologie_cocokelley_fall_tabletop5
On the 'blue' side (with the black tablecloth) I chose a few different patterns in the same colorway and changed up the way they were layered in each setting. The stemware was all different but all clear glass, and I rotated my favorite tumblers that also happened to be in the same palette of the dishes.
    anthropologie_cocokelley_fall_tabletop7
On the 'colorful' side (with the red tablecloth), I started with large white dishes as the base, then a fun Nathalie Lete plate (le pomme is my favorite!), a different salad dish at each setting, and topped them with those adorable flamestitch bowls. Keeping most of the pieces consistent - just in different colors - made the settings feel a little more cohesive but still very playful. I also used all colored stemware.
    anthropologie_cocokelley_fall_tabletop2
I was so happy to have an intimate group to gab with about the settings, explaining how and why I selected the pieces I did (I spy miss Maggie of Maggie Rose and Jenn from Bowtie and Bustle!) .
    anthropologie_cocokelley_fall_hostess gift
I also put together a small table of some of my most favorite gifts (mostly for the hostess, but I'm sure any gal would be happy to receive these packages!)
    anthropologie_cocokelley_hostess gifts1
While I love a 'themed' gift (in the case above a kitchen calendar, cookbooks, and whisk), I also think gifts look good in color schemes (like below with the mini latte bowls, chevron frame, and holiday candle all in red).
    anthropologie_cocokelley_hostessgifts2
Of course the most fun part was after my little 'presentation' when everyone got to do some serious shopping!
    anthropologie_cocokelley_fall_tabletop10
If you're still figuring out your holiday tabletop, or looking to add even one new element this year, better hop on over to Anthropologie quick. Many of the dishes I used are currently on sale! And, if you have any questions on the pieces I used, feel free to leave them a comment and I'll do my best to answer.  I had so much fun collaborating with Anthropologie on this event, and I hope it's something I'll be able to do with them again!

*a huge thanks to nicole at sunshine charlie for all for all of the amazing photos!!! please give her proper credit if you re-post!
