ROOM OF THE WEEK: 11.29

I've been neglecting my Room of the Week duties lately with holiday on the brain, but when I spotted this stunning stunning bathroom, I knew I had to share...
    glamorous bathroom lighting
The lighting really takes the cake for me, but the intricate door is a close second. Mirror third. I'd almost prefer a vanity that was a bit more delicate, but it certainly helps anchor the room, and makes the marble seem to go on for days. I spy a bath I'd like to soak in for the rest of the day please...

BENDING THE RULES

The complete mesh of no less than five different design eras in this bathroom is throwing my design loving head into a tailspin!

Is this crazy? Or do you love? I'm so completely into it. Although... I think I would have picked a different rug - something with more pink in it to tie in that gorgeous Venetian pendant. But I don't think the purpose in this room is to match in any particular way. Did you notice how the shade perfectly blends right into the wall? Amazing.

UNDERSTATED

This is kind of space I'm willing my head to be in right now...

Clear of clutter, absolutely fresh, and focused on the important things. Like bold wall decor. And leafy accents (whether gilded or recently plucked from the garden).  And great seating (even in the form of a miniature stool).

ROOM OF THE WEEK: 6.2

Long weekends always make for crammed weeks. My inbox is overflowing, my back hurts from sitting at the laptop too long, and I've scheduled something every evening until Sunday... which means zero downtime. I know we all have those weeks, which is why we should also all have a room like this...

Ahhhhhh.... heavenly. Not just the bath but that marble surround, fresh flowers, natural light and clean design. I realize I've been posting on bathrooms a lot - it's totally due to a separate project I was working on - but it's made me realize what a luxury it is to have something like this! Notice that storage space at the end of the room? Fab.

Double sinks are always required. I love how big these are - I'm forever splashing water all over my counters. A little more storage space would be nice, but a few more baskets would solve that. I'm not usually a fan of blonde wood, but in here it's perfect. Anything else would feel too heavy, and the addition of a natural material is totally necessary to keep it from feeling too cold.

And when you don't have time for a relaxing bath, a nice deep shower isn't a bad substitute. The frosted windows help it feel larger than it is - bonus.

Any complaints? I didn't think so.

ROOM OF THE WEEK 5.19

I thought it only appropriate that today's Room of the Week be punctuated with vibrant yellow on such a sunny day...

I have a feeling this is going to be a love it or hate it for most of you! While I'll fully admit that I don't find the space relaxing (or functional) enough for my personal bath, it would be fantastic in a larger home where you can get playful with all those spare rooms floating around. Or a hotel, for that matter. But that's the point of this series, right? Incredible designs that make you go 'wow', and this one sure did it for me.

The yellow sink was the icing on the cake - it looks like the paint is dripping from the ceiling and wall right down the drain. The triple mirrors was an interesting choice. I think I would have just continued the wrap around mirror that's above the bath on one side, and left the right side empty (or maybe some very sleek floating shelving?)

Soooo - love it? Or hate it? Either way, it is quite the room!

IN THE DETAILS: MUSIC + BRICK + MIRRORS

There's nothing like some unexpected surprise details in a home to make things feel just a little more special... but this first space is over the top in fabulousness...
    in the details piano+under+staircase
On top of the gorgeous overall contrast of salvage + modern, the piano tucked under the stairs is what did me in the most. Can you imagine music magically drifting through the space?
    in the details exposed+brick+ceiling
One of my other favorite surprises is when ceilings are given a little extra attention - in this case beautifully rounded exposed brick with a glamorous chandelier makes for a stunning rustic meets traditional look.
    in the details mirror+collage+collection
And, finally, a perfect example of practical meets pretty with this collection of antique gilded mirrrors as an accent to the full wall mirror. A fun way to create a little playful moment in an otherwise simple space.
