ROOM OF THE WEEK: 11.29

I've been neglecting my Room of the Week duties lately with holiday on the brain, but when I spotted this stunning stunning bathroom, I knew I had to share...
    glamorous bathroom lighting
The lighting really takes the cake for me, but the intricate door is a close second. Mirror third. I'd almost prefer a vanity that was a bit more delicate, but it certainly helps anchor the room, and makes the marble seem to go on for days. I spy a bath I'd like to soak in for the rest of the day please...

LARGER THAN LIFE

I'm getting up the guts to go big in my new apartment. I want a larger than life print in my bedroom where I'll have one big long white wall to cover...
    tumblr_lk9uabUHqd1qazgvfo1_500
This might have just pushed me over the edge and now I'm thinking of going a little over the top with the whole thing. Those drapes? I swoon. The flamenco dancer? I die. Totally girly, and oh so awesome. Now, can anyone tell me where this image is from, so I can see the rest of what must be a fabulous home?

A LITTLE FAB ON THE SIDE

I've been hunting for an original little table to sit next to my settee in the 'office' area of the apartment. I thought I had seen every possible option, until this piece of amazingness landed in my inbox:
    Quinn Agate Table
Hello lover. Some girls like shoes. I like martini tables. That mix of glamour with a raw organic edge to it is complete perfection. Plus, can you imagine all the amazing colors of agate that could be used for this? It's blowing my mind.

HIGH GLOSS: THE BRIAN ATWOOD B SHOWROOM

You may have already heard the buzz about Brian Atwood's new "B" label. It's a rather sassy mix of styles, where strong, bold silhouettes meet modern, feminine details, making the newly designed showroom a perfect reflection of the B aesthetic.  Lucky for us, we got a little peek into the new space to share with you!
    image005
The fun part of decorating a showroom space is that it can take more risks and be a bit more over the top glam. More than the furniture, I love the chrome displays - both simple shelving and abstract sculpture - the most.
    image006
Brian Atwood explains his vision: “The movement of the space is organic, young and expresses the spirit of the B girl. I wanted the showroom to have the feeling of an edgy art installation that incorporates everything I love – gorgeous art, sleek furniture and sexy shoes.”

He commissioned renowned installation artist, Sebastien L. Agneessens, to create two distinct areas decorated in an mix of custom-made contemporary furniture and vintage pieces from the 1960's and 1970's, creating a very high gloss factor.

    image003
The giant mirrored aluminum sculpture was based on the texture of reptile scales and weaves throughout the showroom serving as a unique display equally glamorous shoes. Agneessens explains his inspiration: “When designing the sculpture, I kept in mind how a giant glam rock vibraphone would look, something Daft Punk would play with at their concert. It has the ability to capture and reflect the light in a fantastical way, and further translates the look and feel of the space: organic, yet contemporary and hopefully elegant.”

What do you think of the whole look? I certainly think it evokes a rock and roll edginess and I love the light reflecting everywhere - there's such a fabulous energy to it! I'd also take that pair of leopard Milo Baughman chairs. Rowr.

GETTIN' MY GLAM ON

It's funny - if you ask people to describe the aesthetic here on coco+kelley one of the words that comes up again and again is glamorous. A decidedly tricky word because (I think we can all agree) each of us defines glamour in our own way.
    64921191_hBnu1BwI_c
I've also realized that my own definition of glamour has evolved over the past few years. I seem to have a different threshold for how much of it I can handle in one space - something I'm realizing as I decorate my new place. One thing I do know is that there is definitely still room for it... in a relaxed-yet-fabulous kind of way...

Sort of like this ensemble. I may have gone with some more metallic accessories to mimic the look of the room above, but this sure is doing it for me. And yes, I'm obsessed with a bright orange+black palette for my fall transitional style. Adding bits of white, gold or grey helps tone down the contrast. (I think, however, I'll cut myself off from the overall look a few weeks before Halloween.)

Anyway - back to the original point. Glamour. We're going to get a big 'ol dose of it on the blog this week because I need to inject a little of it back into my home and my wardrobe. Let's get our glam on!

ROOM OF THE WEEK (ALL OR NOTHING)

I've recently discovered a new designer and her website is making me want more more more! Her name is Wendy Schwartz and her style is fabulous for two reasons...
    IMG_1101
This would be the first. A delightfully simple, fresh, cozy and glamorous bedroom that I would love to roll myself into at the end of a long day. In my book, one can never go wrong with white and gold, but I love the mix of styles and textures here. The plush headboard and frame, the large scale pattern on the rug, the tone on tone wallpaper pattern and lighting with serious impact are combining into a world of goodness for me here.

    But then there's this...

The very opposite of the somewhat minimalist concept in the first room, the common vein in all of Wendy's designs is certainly the glamour factor. And you know we love us some glamour over here at c+k! I adore big bold design in little rooms like this. There is a lot going on, but it doesn't feel cluttered - more of a visual feast, with lots of little treasures to discover. Which is reason number two for loving her style - it's striking a perfect balance.

What do you think? Does your style go one way or the other? Or could you live in both?

ROOM OF THE WEEK: 4.21

Glamour. White on white. And a hit of green. Seriously - what's not to love?
    inteirorsmag1
I'm pretty sure my next apartment won't be as big as this bedroom, but if it were, this is exactly how I'd set it up. Well... I'd add a little more personality and punch. And hardwood floors. But let's focus on the space at hand. What do you think? Honestly, big bedrooms like this intimidate me a bit. The most I've ever had to deal with was a little space for a small seating area. But an entire living room? And desk?

Now, normally, I might say this is a little *yawn*... but isn't that what you want in a bedroom? Something simple and calming as you drift off to sleep? If anything, I'd change the paint or flooring to something a little darker... maybe the curtains as well. But the simple gold accents everywhere are putting me over the edge in love. And that green color? It's about to be everywhere. Mark my words.

Thoughts? Hate? Love? I don't know if I could honestly live with it... but I know I love it!

BUNNY WILLIAMS + REDEFINING GLAMOUR

Recently I was asked (for the 100th time) what trend it is that I'm most sick of these days. And as I pondered the answer, I realized it's not so much a trend that I'm over, but a look. Specifically, the typical pieces used to put together what I consider to be the most generalized definition of 'glamour' to the majority. Gold or chrome finishes, zebra rugs, graphic prints (likely zig zags), lucite, at least one oversized piece that creates a bold presence in the room, and tons of accessories. Apart, I still love them all, but together they're getting quite predictable.

As someone who likes to define my own spaces with the word glamour, I feel ready for a redefinition of the term...
    ED0311_Williams_p166
Which is why when I saw this simple but (yes!) glamorously inspired space by Bunny Williams in the latest Elle Decor, I was struck with the thought that perhaps this is what I'm leaning towards? It's a somewhat odd but cohesive mix of styles, with a completely practical sofa paired alongside statement chairs and a very noticeable lack of clutter. The coffee table definitely takes the prize for most glam piece in the room, and the high gloss finishes certainly help support it, but the overall feel is modern glamour... simplified. Even the pairing of pillows on the sofa with that unexpected leopard lend themselves to this more relaxed, effortless idea of glamorous style. There's no bold graphic rug, dripping chandelier or gilded mirror. It's soft, welcoming and livable.

So, what do you think? Is it boring and blah? Or refreshing? Are there elements missing that you would add to help define it as a glamorous space? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
