ON THE HUNT: THE PERFECTLY LAYERED RUG

Thanks to my huge bank of bedroom inspirations there is one element I can confidently say will be happening in my own space: a double layer of rugs. The only part that I've yet to determine, is what combination!
    131618557_f6sQVc0T_c
I'm guessing the smaller rug will be one of three options - sheepskin, cowhide or a small Moroccan rug. And the larger could really be anything. I love this combo where a large scale pattern plays well off of the traditional Moroccan piece.
    Picture 3
For a bit more visual texture, the combination of sisal and cowhide is kind of fun! I'm not sure how soft either would be on the feet, but it sure does look good. Maybe best kept to warmer climates?
    lonny.195065-7-05Mellett
And the option I'm leaning towards the most at the moment - white on white. A cozy white rug with white sheepskin atop. Of course, any combination of these would work... Pattern + sheepskin? Sisal + Moroccan?

What would be your perfect pairing?

GOOD GOURD.

When you live in an apartment without a porch or patio, there's really no good place to place your Halloween pumpkins. I've basically got two options - put one out in the hallway (where I don't get to enjoy it) or keep it in the house where lighting it seems a little silly. So I'm thinking option number three might be called for this year...
    98163539_TnKgoDjx_c
Take a little inspiration from your own home and paint that pumpkin right on up to match!
    375010354_ShXYcxLl_c
It's fresh, festive and fairly easy. Not to mention a little less messy. I think I may do a last minute attempt for tonight! Also - that bedroom? Definitely going on the inspiration board for my own place. Loving the layers of white!

BACK TO BRASS

I've been drooling over this gorgeous brass railing at the new Tory Burch flagship store ever since This is Glamorous posted it on her beautiful blog...
    6161080980_749d247109_o
And because of that, I've been dreaming of ways I could bring a bit of this glam element into my little apartment... the solution? A brass headboard:
    il_570xN.271528867
I've had this little cutie bookmarked for months over on Etsy, and it just sold yesterday. Boo.
    8246_1273764563_7
I discovered this one over on 1st Dibs, but it seems a bit too blocky for me.

I'm not 100% sold on the idea of a metal headboard vs. fabric as I do end up doing work in bed from time to time and I want it to be comfy, but the way that brass pops off the walls is so gorgeous! Any other ideas on how to incorporate it into the home?

BLUSH + JADE

Two completely different variations of this pink, grey, green and white palette...

I'm loving them both. Which would you pick if you had to? I usually opt for cleaner, but in this case, I think I'll go with the first layered look. I just love the glow the room gets from those blushing walls...

This color combination will be making an appearance in the new apartment for sure, but not quite in these tones. I'll have some peeks at my progress to share with you soon!

ROOM OF THE WEEK 8.25

The layout of this room in itself is enough to make it a nominee the Room of the Week. But the white walls, collection of antique, traditional and vintage furniture, and sweet little details? That pretty much sealed the deal.
    viaoldmanswag.pinterest
It's always a challenge to put together a multifunctional space, but I think this one is setting the bar. The richer wood tones and blue accents help the room from being too washed out, and there is a perfect balance of old and new as well. Something I'm working on achieving in my own space right now - and it's more of a challenge than I thought! I also like that it's not trying too hard to appear to quirky and mismatched, but it has those elements (mostly in the artwork and the variety of lighting).

More than anything though, these are the types of spaces that make me realize how much (or should I say little?) we really need to make a space beautiful and functional. I'm taking this lesson right into my own home and keeping only the essentials this time around. I have to say... it's a fabulous feeling!

BLACK + WHITE BOUDOIR

If yesterday's post on Delfina's pied-à-terre didn't hint that this was coming, well, then someone wasn't paying attention...
coco+kelley bedroom inspiration black white glam
*ahem*. My current bedroom inspiration. White, black and gold. I am in love. The fabric will either be used for drapes or upholstering a chair I currently own that needs a little facelift. I want the shapes and a few acent pieces to hint at a Moroccan influence without going too over the top. I may, however, need to purchase a small authentic Moroccan wedding blanket or rug to balance all the 'new' and keep things from getting overly Hollywood Regency. And for the record - that dresser? It's a changing table. If you can point me in the direction of a dresser that looks exactly like this, I'll take it, but I'm currently fantasizing about those deep drawers...

GETTIN' MY GLAM ON

It's funny - if you ask people to describe the aesthetic here on coco+kelley one of the words that comes up again and again is glamorous. A decidedly tricky word because (I think we can all agree) each of us defines glamour in our own way.
    64921191_hBnu1BwI_c
I've also realized that my own definition of glamour has evolved over the past few years. I seem to have a different threshold for how much of it I can handle in one space - something I'm realizing as I decorate my new place. One thing I do know is that there is definitely still room for it... in a relaxed-yet-fabulous kind of way...
    60509529_4XrsIHAA_c
Sort of like this ensemble. I may have gone with some more metallic accessories to mimic the look of the room above, but this sure is doing it for me. And yes, I'm obsessed with a bright orange+black palette for my fall transitional style. Adding bits of white, gold or grey helps tone down the contrast. (I think, however, I'll cut myself off from the overall look a few weeks before Halloween.)

Anyway - back to the original point. Glamour. We're going to get a big 'ol dose of it on the blog this week because I need to inject a little of it back into my home and my wardrobe. Let's get our glam on!

ROOM OF THE WEEK (ALL OR NOTHING)

I've recently discovered a new designer and her website is making me want more more more! Her name is Wendy Schwartz and her style is fabulous for two reasons...
    IMG_1101
This would be the first. A delightfully simple, fresh, cozy and glamorous bedroom that I would love to roll myself into at the end of a long day. In my book, one can never go wrong with white and gold, but I love the mix of styles and textures here. The plush headboard and frame, the large scale pattern on the rug, the tone on tone wallpaper pattern and lighting with serious impact are combining into a world of goodness for me here.

    But then there's this...
    final_Untitled_Panorama12_small
The very opposite of the somewhat minimalist concept in the first room, the common vein in all of Wendy's designs is certainly the glamour factor. And you know we love us some glamour over here at c+k! I adore big bold design in little rooms like this. There is a lot going on, but it doesn't feel cluttered - more of a visual feast, with lots of little treasures to discover. Which is reason number two for loving her style - it's striking a perfect balance.

What do you think? Does your style go one way or the other? Or could you live in both?

ROOM OF THE WEEK 8.11

Sometimes the Room of the Week isn't anything fancy or over-the-top. Sometimes it's just the coziest little space you can imagine...
    107743658_2n3E0PDL_c
The kind of room you see and think, "I could stay there for hours." Or, better yet, the kind of room you see and think "Hey... I could do that." I've seen this room pass through quite a few blogs but it never gets old to me and I think part of the reason is that it's perfectly attainable. That gorgeous, tufted headboard is likely the most custom piece in the room - everything else you could easily go out and find. The only part most of us won't be replicating anytime soon is the soaring ceiling and wood beams. That, you're gonna have to house hunt for!

Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to go back to daydreaming that I get to sit and lounge here all day instead of moving boxes...

ROOM OF THE WEEK 7.14

While I should be concentrating on client projects, the upcoming issue of Rue, and a million other things, my mind keeps wandering to my new apartment as I begin imagining all the possibilities for each room...
    elledecor.ethnicbedroom
So, I thought I'd start sharing some of my inspirations as I pull them. This one just happens to be good enough to be the Room of the Week!

As Miss Maryam suggested, I think I'm going to have to adopt some gorgeous Moroccan decor for the space, and where I'd really love to see it all end up is the bedroom. While I won't be able to recreate a room as stunning as this, I can certainly pull in a few elements like a graphic but neutral-toned rug, at least one traditional inlay piece, a dramatic mirror, long full drapes and a chic little chandelier.

What I really love is the overall effect these rich pieces bring to the room - warmth and luxury balanced by moments of simplicity like the bed and unfussy drapery. What's your favorite element?

RED, WHITE + GREEN?

While I work on putting together a few more posts from my travels in Italy, this color combination seems quite appropriate to share with you this morning...
    red green white
A preppy twist to red, white and blue, the switch to green is unexpected for summer, don't you think? I love the little addition of pale blue or aqua to keep it feeling fresh, too.

As a side note, Nick Olsen really hit this little studio apartment out of the park with his fun design - I immediately tore out the white sofa with green piping for my inspiration board. If you haven't seen it (all over blogland), check out the whole thing on House Beautiful's site.

ROOM OF THE WEEK: 4.21

Glamour. White on white. And a hit of green. Seriously - what's not to love?
    inteirorsmag1
I'm pretty sure my next apartment won't be as big as this bedroom, but if it were, this is exactly how I'd set it up. Well... I'd add a little more personality and punch. And hardwood floors. But let's focus on the space at hand. What do you think? Honestly, big bedrooms like this intimidate me a bit. The most I've ever had to deal with was a little space for a small seating area. But an entire living room? And desk?

Now, normally, I might say this is a little *yawn*... but isn't that what you want in a bedroom? Something simple and calming as you drift off to sleep? If anything, I'd change the paint or flooring to something a little darker... maybe the curtains as well. But the simple gold accents everywhere are putting me over the edge in love. And that green color? It's about to be everywhere. Mark my words.

Thoughts? Hate? Love? I don't know if I could honestly live with it... but I know I love it!

PESKY HEIRLOOMS

One question I get asked a lot as an interior designer and blogger is, "How do I mix my family heirlooms in with my modern/classic decor?" The answer??
    lonny antique chest bedroom
Despite the many many rooms I have in my inspiration files exhibiting eclectic styles mixed and matched, it seems to be a challenge that in real life people have a very hard time tackling. Do you find that to be true for you, as well?

My quick answer is, it's all about balance and proportion and not being afraid to let that piece stand out. My follow up answer is - heirloom or not, if you hate it, you'll never be happy with it. Find a happy home for it elsewhere.

PS - I love this bedroom. It feels very grown up... in a really good way. (via lonny)

ROOM OF THE WEEK 2.3

After an insanely busy week, I'm dreaming of escapes to quiet places... an old villa somewhere in Italy or Spain sounds lovely right about now...
    Maria Calderara.marieclairemaison.dti
While I couldn't live a day-to-day existence in something this sparse, I think the magic of an empty room is that your mind has space to breathe and wander and dream up fill itself up. I love this room as a workspace. It seems so meditative with the soft light filtering in and a plethora of floor pillows which I'd surely use to stretch out on the floor in the sunshine. And the rug!! My god, it's glorious!

The simple little bedroom isnt' so bad either...

WRITING'S ON THE WALL...

Just a little monday inspiration to get you out of bed this morning...
    inspiration wall coco+kelley
Dolly was right. You'll never do a whole lot unless you're brave enough to try. That includes making bold decorating decisions like a fabulous and whimsical mural wall behind a chic (and somewhat traditional!) little bedroom setting. So, whatever it is you're putting off, take some advice from the wall - just do it.

    Have a fabulous, inspired week!

BRIGHT (BEDROOM) IDEAS

I've been pondering these two little pieces of inspiration for guest bedrooms this week...
    via designsponge.guestroomdoor
This lovingly painted door feels so special... if you could handle your halls being brightened up by such lovely whimsy, I think is would be a very sweet way to welcome guests to your home!
    magnus anesund red ceiling
I've also been wondering if painting a ceiling in bright red, just for the soft pink glow it brings to the white walls, is crazy or genius. I'm not usually a fan of red in bedrooms, but in a guest room with tall ceilings an minimal decor...? I'm kinda digging it!

    Could you, would you?
